ABWEICHUNGEN

Societal, social and political issues form the starting point for the long-term projects „rauschen“ by Laila Schubert and „Developments“ by Tino Zimmermann.

„rauschen“ deals with the not always obvious areas of severe (drug) addiction. The work takes us to public and institutional places where addiction becomes visible. Drug consumption rooms, emergency sleeping centres, police custody, self-help facilities, but also the open drug scene, are at the heart of the photographic exploration. Without focussing on the people affected, the surrounding space becomes a reflection of social conditions. Schubert's work paints a multi-layered picture of the topic of addiction and reveals complex socio-political contexts.

„Developments“ (2011-2020) by Tino Zimmermann is a stream of consciousness extracted from the artist's archive. The will to overcome the psychosis triggered by drugs and to accept his own chaos led him to engage with symptomatic social voids of the post-reunification period. From notes and street photography, interiors, found objects and portraits, Zimmermann developed a more than 500-page photo book; his own way out of the crisis.

The award-winning books of the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis from 2024/2025 will be shown alongside the exhibition.
