Venue Projektraum Fotografie, Huckarder Straße 10, Dortmund

Projektraum Fotografie is showing the work "13 Portraits" by Fatih Kurçeren. Taken in the Ruhr region, it deals with people of different origins. Fatih Kurçeren photographed refugees in sensitive portraits that make the trauma they experienced visible.

People mainly from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and the former Yugoslavia are the focus of the work. The Ruhr region has long since become a new living space and a new home for many of them. Many fates from then and now overlap here. Like the story of a Yazidi woman from Qamishli, a town in northern Syria, who was held as a slave by the IS for months. Or the story of a Roma boy whose father was threatened with death by the local Serbs and then left the country with the whole family. In the Ruhr region, the new fates merge with the culture of the old fates.
